Let me introduce myself and tell you what kind of Coach I am…
I’m part of a healthcare revolution that has been growing over the last several years. Chronic disease is on the rise and Americans are getting more and more unhealthy in mind, body, and spirit. The model of going to the doctor and getting a prescription medicine for whatever ails you and being told to “eat better and exercise” is clearly not working for so many of us. If that model worked, we’d be the healthiest nation on earth by now! Doctors simply don’t have the time or skills to help a person develop healthy habits even though they agree that’s what their patients need the most. Working as a physical therapist assistant for many years, I saw people getting sicker and sicker and knew that there was a better way to bring them back to optimal health, but wasn’t sure what that looked like. Instead of meeting people after a surgery, injury, or illness, I realized I wanted to help people prevent the disease or injury in the first place. And I realized I wanted to help people in a deeper way so that they could be healthy in all aspects of their lives – including emotionally and spiritually. But how would I do that? I found Health Coaching and I knew that this was how I could help people in a more holistic way!
So, what if you had someone who could walk beside you, teach you healthy habits that become your own, and find out what you really wanted in your life? And then support you and hold you accountable to that healthy vision of yourself? That would be amazing, right? Well, that’s exactly what I’ve been trained and have a passion to do. And I love it!
We’ve all got relentless demands in our family and work lives and we know we need to take care of ourselves but somehow we tend to put ourselves last on our priority list (I did for most of my adult life). We think everyone else’s needs are more important than our own. But how can we serve anyone when we’re exhausted and barely treading water ourselves? That’s the situation a lot of people are in. Here’s something to consider: 95% of our behavior occurs out of habit, either unconsciously or in reaction to external demands. Are your daily habits helping or hurting you? Is it time for an upgrade on some of your habits?
